RHS Garden Harlow Carr

Today I would like to share with you a story about a visit to the garden in Yorkshire. We visited the RHS Garden Harlow Carr in Yorkshire, this April. It was on the eve of spring we decided that we ought to visit the garden. I grew up on a small farm in Yockenthwaite. On the farm, we had cows, sheep, rabbits, hens, horses and other farm animals as well. There was a barn adjacent to the farm where we kept all the animals. Next to the barn was a stable where we kept four horses all from the rare breed and could hardly be found these days. On the exterior of the farm, right next to our neighbour’s land, we had grown some plants together as a hobby. Jack was about my age and we used to find and pick some extraordinary and fascinating flowers from the other parts of the town, and then we jointly planted them in our little garden, if I may call it that.

After completing my Master’s in Botany at the University of Amsterdam, I got a job at the local garden. I accepted the offer and after some time I applied for the lectureship at the university. With my experience and academia, I was appointed for the post at the university. It was in the year 2003, My family moved with me to Amsterdam. I got married there and have three children, my wife teaches at a local school. She is also fond of gardening and horticulture. We often go and visit different plants and flowers exhibitions around the globe. I live in Amsterdam, and not far from here there is a town called Lisse; the town is famous for its display of flowers and other plants as well, there is a garden named Keukenhof, also known as the garden of Europe.

This spring we took a trip to RHS Garden Harlow Carr, Yorkshire. After landing at the airport my wife suggested that we should book online cab service from the airport. I checked online and found a cab service named company with good user reviews on it. I called and booked the cab from the airport, company told me that the driver was just around the corner and will be there shortly. In just under a few minutes the driver arrived, placed our bag in the boot of the car and we went on with the journey.

After taking a few stops along the way we finally arrived at the garden. The driver gave us our luggage and took his leave. We arrived just in time for the show. The flower exhibition was just about to begin. My wife was interested in lilies, roses, lavender, jasmine and sunflowers. I was more interested in the display and presentation of the flowers. I liked them all together, placed in a row, depicting and showing different colours simultaneously. We spent the whole afternoon and some part of the evening before the garden was closed off for the day. We took some pictures and made notes of the few things that we liked in the garden. After such an adventurous day we spent the night at our uncle’s and returned home the day after that.
