The Royal Shakespeare Theatre and Swan Theatre

My professor assigned us a project. We were a group of six students in the drama class. We were to pick and visit some of the most significant and iconic British theatres around England. It took us one whole afternoon and evening as well to devise and come up with some different theatres around Britain. There were some picks which are personal favourites of mine. Out of these ones were The Royal Shakespeare Theatre and Swan Theatre. It is an absolute favourite of mine. I wanted to visit the theatre for years. Fortunately, the project enabled me to visit the theatre. I am studying at The University of Edinburgh. I am in the final year of my degree. I am studying literature and history at the university. I have been able to achieve A grades in all of my subjects. The drama section is one of my strongest suites as well.

One afternoon we devised a plan on how we would go about the project. Some theatres were located in the Southern part of the UK, and we all agreed that we would first go and visit these theatres. After that, we were to visit the remaining theatres around the United Kingdom. The Royal Shakespeare Theatre and Swan Theatre were falling at the last of the list we designed. It meant that we would visit it on our way back home.

We started our tour on the 24th of May. According to our plan, it would take us around two weeks to visit the theatres we chose, as part of our literary project.

After visiting the theatre in Bristol, our next stop was to go and visit the Swan Theatre. We flew from there to Heathrow Airport. After landing there we booked a cab from company, it was recommended to us by one of my friends; who uses online cab services on a regular basis.

The driver was already waiting for us at the airport. We went up to him and introduced ourselves. He welcomed and greeted us in a cheerful manner. He offered to take the bags, but we were quite comfortable holding them. Placed the luggage in the trunk of the cab and went on with our journey.

After driving around the heavy traffic of London we finally reached the theatre. The driver gave us over suitcases and left. We then entered the theatre, it was just getting dark outside. That evening, they were performing Shakespeare's play, “The Othello.” It is one of my favourites. One of the biggest reasons I like the play was because of Desdemona. She is one of the sweetest yet charming and lovable characters in all of Shakespeare’s plays.

The play was excellent and all the performers were exceptional in it. It was performed and presented with sophistication and brilliance as well. After the play, we were invited backstage. It was part of the project; they knew that we are on tour to the different theatres around the United Kingdom. It was a great learning experience for all of us. We met the actors, and they told us some of the “Tricks of The Trade.” It was quite a memorable trip not as a student of literature but also as an admirer of the plays and theatres as well. After that, we were planning on coming back home. It is one of the most valued memories of my life.
